Divorce Counselling

When couples separate it can be a traumatic experience, often there’s a communication breakdown, built up resentment, power play surrounding finances and children. Divorce counselling can help you either individually or together to re-structure your relationship, helping you shift from conflict and struggle to a healthier relationship.

Together we set ground rules for constructive co-parenting, identify ways to engage and get along creating a sense of well-being for everyone.  Research shows that children whose parents have separated and manage to co-parent effectively and without conflict adjust more quickly to the separation.

You may have decided to separate or divorce, have come to an applicable agreement but are concerned about how best to manage the impact on yourselves and your children.  I work through the process with you, providing you with tools to move forward and negotiate a good understanding of how life continues realistically in a way where you can both have a valued and loving relationship with your children.

Divorce Counselling is not a substitute for family mediation. Under the Family Law Act 1975 couples who are unable to resolve differences over children, finances or property are advised to undertake mediation before embarking on a legal process. Counselling can assist in this process working in conjunction with family mediators and family lawyers by attending before, during or after mediation.

Relationship Counselling

Relationships take time and effort to keep them healthy and fulfilling. Couples often have different ideas and beliefs on how they would like their relationship to be.  Each person is individual and has a different view of the world, how they interact with each other, give or receive love and deal with conflict.

As a relationship counsellor, we work together to get to the underlying cause of your relationship distress. I help you create a vision of your life together, communicate effectively with kindness to understand your need, resolve conflict bringing you closer, identify fun things to do, develop a more intimate connection and bring optimism back to your future.

You may ask, "does my partner need to come to counselling with me?". The answer is no; it’s not always necessary to work with both partners. Even if only one partner decides to seek help, the relationship between you often improves.

Healing a wounded relationship particularly after an affair takes commitment and hard work. Couples who are committed to this process are often surprised how quickly they make a profound and lasting change.

What a  relationship counsellor can’t do.

While counselling might help with identifying patterns and roadblocks in a relationship, it does not claim to save relationships or marriages. Counselling clarifies relationship issues, brings awareness and helps you separate what you can control and what you cannot.

Grief & Loss Counselling

Grief and loss can bring a myriad of emotions.  Whether that be through the death of a loved one, miscarriage, divorce, separation, loss of a beloved pet,  a job, personal injury or realising an empty nest.  These experiences can send you on an emotional roller-coaster.

People identify grief with the loss of someone or something, but grief and loss can go a lot further. Any major transition in your life can create a sense of loss.

Yours is such a personal journey.  You may be experiencing intense sadness, confusion, anger, disbelief and guilt. You may have difficulty sleeping, develop migraines, digestive issues, tightness in the chest, feeling like youré choking or highly anxious.

As a grief counsellor, I can help you work through your grief in a safe, quiet and supportive environment.  I use a variety of techniques to help you experience, understand and move through the grief process, helping you adjust and plan your life feeling more in control.

Workplace Counselling & Training

As an employer, you know how difficult it can be at times to maintain a harmonious and productive workplace.

Workplace counselling and training is a cost-effective solution supporting you and your employees to reduce conflict, improve morale, reduce absenteeism, and protect your valuable asset.

The effects of stress and anxiety arising from lifestyle challenges, career transitions, redundancy, bullying or any other work-related issue may adversely affect job performance, health and well-being.

As a workplace counsellor, I provide your employees with the support they need in times of crisis and conflict. I can attend the workplace, provide Skype or Phone counselling or they may wish to see me in person at my private practice.

As a manager, supervisor, or colleague you may have found yourself in an “Accidental Counsellor Role”. Employees come to you with an issue or concern, and you find yourself having to counsel them.  You may be unsure how to handle the situation or resort to providing advice, which might not be helpful.  As a workplace trainer, I help you, and your staff develop the tools and training they need to be able to handle this situation confidently and identify when further resources or assistance may be required.
